How to read a Showdown Score™
The only score that counts how often a product breaks, not just how owners feel about it.
- Three parts add up to the score: what owners rate it, how often it fails them, and whether a credentialed tester backed it.
- Bands: Exceptional 8.5 and up, Excellent 7.5, Very good 6.5, Good 5.5, Fair 4, Poor below 4. Every score is dated.
- Price, the warranty and what a link pays us stay out of it.
Very good
Very good is 6.5 to 7.4.

Pros
- Tested hands-on: Outdoor Life's tester held a brisket within 5 degrees of 250°F from a cool morning into a hot afternoon
- Two chambers on independent controls: smoke on the 900 sq in side while the 300 sq in side sears at up to 700°F
- A 70 lb hopper that feeds both chambers, and four meat probes (per the tester)
- 6-year warranty on the whole unit, and the Amazon listing is sold by recteq itself
Cons
- Its owner base is small: 60 Amazon ratings (read October 2026)
- The direct-heat side is small for a cookout (300 sq in), and the whole grill is 27 by 70 inches and about 251 lb
- Raising the temperature mid-cook threw a big plume of white smoke in the tester's grill session; set it and leave it
- Its few critical reviews describe a thermostat that died at two years, fire and software trouble, and a unit that arrived damaged
A part that quits (a thermostat at two years), fire and software trouble, and a unit that arrived damaged; two of the three say recteq support was slow.
